<common-name>Phallisin</common-name>

Phallisin is a solid compound with the formula C35H48N8O12S. Phallisin belongs to the amino acids, peptides, and analogues, a subclass of carboxylic acids and derivatives within the organic compounds. With an average molecular weight of 804.87 g/mol, Phallisin is a heavy molecule. It is an exogenous substance and is one of a group of toxins known as phallotoxins from the death cap (Amanita phalloides). The phallotoxins consist of at least seven compounds, all of which have seven similar peptide rings, isolated from the death cap (Amanita phalloides).

The protein targets of Phallisin include Actin, cytoplasmic 1 (ACTB), Actin, cytoplasmic 2 (ACTG1), Actin, alpha skeletal muscle (ACTA1), and Actin, aortic smooth muscle (ACTA2). Phallotoxins bind actin, preventing its depolymerization and poisoning the cell. They bind specifically at the interface between F-actin subunits, locking adjacent subunits together. This leads to a decrease in the rate constant for the dissociation of actin subunits from filament ends, which essentially stabilizes actin filaments through the prevention of filament depolymerization. Moreover, they inhibit the ATP hydrolysis activity of F-actin.
