<common-name>Carfentrazone-ethyl</common-name>

Carfentrazone-ethyl (C15H14Cl2F3N3O3) is an exogenous organic compound with an average molecular weight of 412.19 g/mol. It exists as a solid at room temperature. Carfentrazone-ethyl belongs to the triazoles, a subclass of azoles within the organic compounds.

Used industrially as a biocide, this compound is a contact herbicide employed to control sedge and broadleaf weeds in cereals. It functions as a non-selective agent capable of complete vegetation control, as well as serving as a defoliant and desiccant in certain crops. Its mode of action involves the inhibition of protoporphyrinogen oxidase, which disrupts membranes and leads to cell death.

The compound has been recorded in drinking water and water supply, as well as in building and construction floors. The recorded route of exposure is oral. Carfentrazone-ethyl interacts with six protein targets, including Interleukin-1 alpha (IL1A), Cytochrome P450 2B6 (CYP2B6), Cytochrome P450 2C19 (CYP2C19), and Cytochrome P450 2C9 (CYP2C9), along with two other proteins.
